HENRY Cavill has shared the first pics from upcoming Netflix show The Witcher – which has been dubbed the “new Game Of Thrones”.
The Brit actor – who plays monster hunter Geralt of Rivia in the show – is seen staring out over a desolate seascape in one eerie shot.
He will star in the new TV adaptation of the popular fantasy novel saga written by Andrzej Sapkowski.
The show has been widely tipped as a potential successor to the Game Of Thrones series – which too was based on the fantasy novels of George R R Martin.
Ahead of The Witcher’s release – expected later this year – Cavil surprised fans by posting a series of glimpses on Instagram on Monday.
Cavil was first choice to play the lead role – and the pics certainly show why.
He is seen in a leather costume with a sword mounted on his back – making him look identical to the video-game version of The Witcher.
Netflix is not shy about pointing out the similarities to Game Of Thrones.
The streaming giant’s synopsis for the series says: “Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.”
“But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.”
