Gold Derby can exclusively reveal that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is entering the “Game of Thrones” episode “The Bells” as his 2019 Emmy Awards submission for Best Drama Supporting Actor. This program aired May 12 and was the fifth episode of the eighth season for the HBO show.
In this installment, Jaime (Coster-Waldau) is captured, but Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) releases him to help persuade Cersei (Lena Headey) to surrender on behalf of the city and the crown. Cersei’s army is instead forced to surrender, but Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) burns all soldiers and civilians. Cersei and Jaime reunite but are crushed as the Red Keep collapses.
It’s the second nomination in this category for Coster-Waldau. For this year’s contest, he is competing against three-time winner and co-star Peter Dinklage, past nominees Jonathan Banks (“Better Call Saul”), Giancarlo Esposito (“Better Call Saul”) and Michael Kelly (“House of Cards”), plus rookie contenders Alfie Allen (“Game of Thrones”) and Chris Sullivan (“This Is Us”).
