Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has admitted he’s yet to tune in to prequel series House of The Dragon.

From 2011 until 2019 the Danish actor, 52, played Jamie Lannister on the long-running fantasy series.

One of the most beloved characters, Jamie eventually died in the penultimate episode, when he was killed alongside his twin sister and lover Cersei after they became trapped in a collapsing castle.

Although he was one of the few cast members to make it through all eight seasons before meeting his end, Nikolaj hasn’t rushed to catch the follow-up.

When asked if he had taken the chance to tune in, he responded matter of factly: ‘I have not.’

However, one day he did stumble across the opening credits, which he described as ‘a little strange’.

‘It was the same music, and the title sequence was kind of similar,’ he said.

‘I was like, “Ah, this is too soon. Too soon”,’ he added when speaking to Entertainment Weekly.

But he did indicate he had plans to watch the show, just maybe in a few years.

‘I’ll wait. I’ll give it a couple of seasons, then I can binge watch it and then there’s the whole thing. But I know that so many people love that show, and I’m really happy for them,’ he added.

Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon portrays the events leading up to the beginning of the decline of House Targaryen, a devastating war of succession known as the Dance of the Dragons.

After hitting screens last year, it was renewed less than a week later.

In December executive producer Sara Hess confirmed most of the second season had already been written, and that it would consist of eight episodes.

Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are available to watch on Sky and NOW.
