While many of the characters in Game of Thrones have compelling backstories, none compare to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau‘s portrayal of Jaime Lannister and his path toward forgiveness. Though a lot of fans agree Game of Thrones had a compelling storyline, Coster-Waldau didn’t quite agree with them. In fact, he initially thought Game of Thrones was not going to do well.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau didn’t think that Game of Thrones would be successful
Coster-Waldau was so far away from the fantasy genre, that he initially didn’t even think he would be in a show like Game of Thrones. Moreover, in a recent interview with Deadline, Coster-Waldau thought the plot of the series was “absurd“, and that “a fantasy show about a girl who gave birth to three dragons and spoke in a made-up language would 11 years later have won more Emmys than any other show in history.”
He added, “Someone imagined it and pursued it.”
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau hasn’t watched House of the Dragon yet
When House of the Dragon was first teased, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was surprised to see Jaime’s smug ancestor on the show. However, he himself hasn’t watched the show yet. In an earlier interview, he had said, “I’ll wait. I’ll give it a couple of seasons, then I can binge-watch it and then there’s the whole thing. But I know that so many people love that show, and I’m really happy for them.”
