Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Says HBO Is Going to Even Crazier Lengths to Prevent Game of Thrones Spoilers.
For as long as it’s been on, Game of Thrones has been plagued with script leaks and illegal downloads. Even JAY-Z recently admitted to feeling “guilty” about watching a leaked episode. “What do you want me to do? People bootleg my album,” he told the BBC. “I’m owed a little bit.” Fair enough, but if HBO has its way, Jay and millions of GoT fans might have some trouble coming across leaks for the eighth and final season. According to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who appeared on the Scandinavian program Skavlan this week, scripts will no longer be sent to the cast digitally, a move that was previously used to prevent hard-copies from leaking. “We’re not even going to get the script,” he said (via The Associated Press), adding that actors in each season eight scene will be fed dialogue through earpieces.
It’s too early to tell whether or not this is a bad idea, but it’s definitely risky, especially when there are just six episodes left to film. Will there be less chemistry between baes-slash-relatives Jon and Dany? Will someone feed a dirty joke to Ser Jorah and break his concentration? And most important, how will anyone deliver epic speeches if there’s someone constantly whispering in your earpiece?
