Airing on January 25, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 2 saw Lyonel Baratheon roping Dunk and Egg into a tug-of-war. Dexter Sol Ansell and Peter Claffey already recounted the on-set accident that happened while filming those scenes. Still, the former revealed that the tug-of-war was actually his favourite scene to film during his appearance on the official Game of Thrones podcast. He also revealed how he went off-script to sabotage for an entirely innocent reason.
Quick read:
- Dexter Sol Ansell loved the tug-of-war scene in episode 2.
- He put his feet up to avoid getting muddy.
- The most emotional scene for him was one from episode 1.
Dexter Sol Ansell on the reason he went off-script in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms episode 2
Actors going off-script while shooting is not unheard of, but the reason Dexter Sol Ansell did it is certainly interesting. In episode 2, when Lyonel Baratheon insisted that Dunk join him in the tug-of-war, Egg also went in despite his much smaller frame. The young squire took the front of the rope while Dunk took the back. When things started to get heated up, Egg put his feet up on the rope and dangled from it.
In the podcast interview, Ansell recalled, “My favourite part had to have been the tug-of-war scene. That was unbelievable. That was so fun. We were actually playing a proper game of tug-of-war. And then my team was losing, and there’s mud in front of me, and I didn’t want to get muddy. So I put my feet over the rope. No one told me to. I just did that because I didn’t want to get muddy.” He also sympathised with the person right behind him, who had to take all his weight on the rope.
Dexter Sol Ansell spoke about his most emotional scene
Later in the interview, Ansell revealed that his most emotional scene in the series came in episode one, when Egg is cooking fish. In the moment, Dunk returns to the tree where he had taken shelter and is surprised to find Egg there, preparing a meal. The 11-year-old actor shared that he has loved fishing since he was very young and often enjoyed it with his father, which made filming the campfire scene especially emotional for him.
