You’d be forgiven for thinking Normal People stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal are an item IRL because of their incredible on-screen chemistry. But while Daisy is dating a fellow actor, it’s not Paul (who appears to be single at the moment, FYI).

Daisy, who plays Marianne in the BBC adaptation of Sally Rooney’s bestseller, is currently dating Tom Varey, who you might recognise from his role as Cley Cerwyn in Game of Thrones. Rada student Tom has also starred in Channel 4’s police drama No Offence and 2018 film Pond Life.

It’s unclear exactly how long the pair have been boyfriend and girlfriend, but they currently live together in London, according to the Evening Standard. The website reports Daisy, Paul and Tom all went out for dinner together ahead of filming so they could get acquainted, before she went on to reveal Tom “was gritting his teeth [during the sex scenes] but at least he’s seen it now.”

Opening up about her chemistry with Paul and how they prepared for the roles, Daisy recently told W Magazine: “We just had a very similar understanding of the way that they communicate and the kind of humour that they have. It just was always kind of there, really.”

While newcomer Paul told Harper’s Bazaar that “once we started rehearsing, I think ultimately it came down to just me and Daisy really getting on and having lots of fun. Also, I think it was useful that we were both playing characters that are kind of seismic of the shape of our careers – we both hadn’t led a television series, so we were kind of in it together.”
