Nobody likes it when plans get cancelled. The situation is on a whole different level when it’s Game of Thrones stuff that gets canned. There’s a good chance that you’ve heard about the cancellation of Game of Thrones’ highly-anticipated prequel starring Naomi Watts, informally dubbed The Long Night. It was set thousands of years into the ancient history of Westeros. The pilot had apparently been shot. But HBO decided to call it off right before it also announced a full series order of another prequel, House of the Dragon based on George R.R. Martin’s most recent work, Fire & Blood.

However, the cancellation is going to bring in some pretty strong reactions from fans and celebrities alike. Emilia Clarke, who played the famed mother of dragons on the show, reacted to this news while talking to Entertainment Tonight at the New York City premiere of her latest film, Last Christmas. When she was asked if she had heard about the scrapping of the prequel, she said:

“I just heard that today. I am not really too sure (of how it happened). I think it’s just reflective of the fact that it’s tough to make people go and see stuff; to get stuff made.

Maybe it will be reincarnated at some point. But if it wasn’t meant to happen now then I’m sure it’s because they knew it wouldn’t be as perfect as it should have been.”

The interviewer also asked her about the reunion with Game of Thrones co-stars Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) and Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo) on her birthday; to which she responded:

“It was really good. We are all really good friends still. So, I had a birthday party and I was like, who’s in town! I mean, I am best friends with Kit’s wife Rose (Leslie), they live literally two doors down so I see them on the regular, but Jason was in town. So, yeah, it was magical!”

The British actress even jested about sharing on-screen love interest with the two handsome men, saying, “I’ve done very well!”

Her next cinematic outing is Last Christmas where she plays Kate, a young woman with an affinity for bad luck who goes through a near-death experience. Emilia has earlier had to undergo surgeries owing to two life-threatening brain aneurysms (a bulge in an artery). A while ago, she was brave enough to come out into the open and talk about it. Her character in Last Christmas shares similar yet even daunting circumstances. So did she draw from her personal experiences?

“Yeah, it was hard not to. We both had medical traumas around the same time in our lives. So there’s a huge amount of Kate’s truth that reflected my own truth as well. We deal with them in slightly different ways. My liver is still intact…but there was some crossover there for sure.”

Paul Feig has directed the film. Last Christmas hits the theatres on 8th of November. The Game of Thrones sensation also spoke about her equation and chemistry with acclaimed actress Emma Thompson, who plays her mother in Last Christmas,

“She’s absolutely my soulmate. I am so blessed and so grateful for Emma Thompson being in my life.”

So, Mhysa seems quite optimistic about the whole thing around the prequels. But this is just among the first of many reactions that are going to come our way. Let’s hope House of the Dragon brings in all the necessary ammo to quench everyone’s thirst for more ice and fire. What do you guys think? Tell us in the comments below.
