Richard Madden, Sam Heughan, Henry Cavill…there’s no shortage of people under consideration to be the next James Bond. What’s another one?
The next James Bond film, No Time To Die, was originally supposed to come out in November of 2019, well over a year ago. It was delayed right into the midst of a global pandemic and has been strung along ever since. If all goes well, we’ll be watching Daniel Craig’s final outing as Bond in October.
At the least, maybe that’s given producers extra time to find someone to replace Craig as Bond. There have been a lot of contenders. We’ve heard that Game of Thrones vet Richard Madden (Robb Stark) might become Bond, Outlander star Sam Heughan is down, Henry Cavill is up for it…hell, even Emilie Clarke threw her hat in the ring.
So MGM has its work cut out for it, and the line of interested actors continues to grow. Talking to Variety about his new film Cherry, Tom Holland — Spider-Man himself — also said that he’d be up for knocking back a few martinis (shaken, not stirred) and playing the world’s most famous super-spy:
Ultimately, as a young British lad who loves cinema, I’d love to be James Bond. So, you know, I’m just putting that out there. I look pretty good in a suit.
Man, the producers are not going to have to call anybody for this role; judging by all this interest, the actors will call them.
So could Holland pull off James Bond? Sure, why not. True, he’s mostly known for playing young-looking nice guys like Peter Parker, but he’s been stretching himself lately; Cherry, which is helmed by Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo, is a crime thriller, and soon enough he’ll be up on the big screen as Nathan Drake in Sony’s Uncharted movie. I’m sure he could summon some killer instinct for Bond.
Of course, he’s have to beat our all the other people angling for the role. We’ll cross that English Channel when we get to it.
