House of The Dragon watchers were profoundly affected by Paddy Considine, and with good reason. Considine infused King Viserys with so much fresh depth and significance that even author George R.R. Martin acknowledged that Considine’s version was superior to what he had written in his book. However, Considine had never anticipated that he would be offered a role in the Game of Thrones prequel.

Paddy Considine doubted if he really was the first choice for Viserys

No one can deny the fact that the Game of Thrones franchise has always done a great job with casting choices, and House of The Dragon follows the same suit. Considine, however, was shocked to know that he really was the first choice.

He told Variety, “I said, ‘Who’s turned this down?’ Because I’m cynical that way. My agent was like, ‘I assure you, they’re just coming to you for it.’”

“I was happy to act. But I just felt like I was capable of so much more than what I was being given to play with.”

Viserys wasn’t corrupted by the Iron Throne

It is true that there were many who desired to rule all of Westeros, but Viserys wasn’t one of them. Considine said, “I loved his virtues. In that world where everybody’s fighting over this seat, he was somebody who wasn’t corrupted by it. I thought this will work if I can make him human.”
