ST. JOHN’S, N.L. —
Paradise hairstylist and The Headroom Salon & Spa c-owner Eryn Wall has styled countless bridal parties, but nothing as high-profile as this.
She recently returned from France, where she was flown to style the bridesmaids of “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner, who wed Jonas Brothers singer Joe Jonas.
Turner, who played Sansa Stark on the acclaimed series, also had co-star Maisie Williams (her on-screen younger sister, Arya Stark) as her maid of honour.
Wall, 38, said she was nervous before leaving St. John’s on June 27 for the wedding at Château de Tourreau in Sarrians on June 29.
“I was thinking about going there and like, ‘Oh God, what are we going to do?’ and, ‘I hope I can do exactly what they want, I hope I can live up to their expectations.’”
But her nerves were quickly quelled when she met the “sweetest girls” who included several of Turner’s childhood friends along with Williams and a longtime female friend of Jonas.
“They were just like regular girls having fun, and they were just talking amongst themselves, chatting with us, just like we would here in the salon.
“It ended up being just a really beautiful experience. I mean, obviously in a different place with a whole lot more money thrown in the mix,” she laughed.
When Wall arrived at the chateau where Turner and her bridesmaids were staying, the bridal party was just waking up. Wall described Turner with her hair flicked up in a bun, wearing pajamas and no make-up.
“Literally looked like she rolled out of bed, but still gorgeous.”
Wall said one of the biggest challenges the hairstyling team faced was creating hairstyles that would last in the 40-C heatwave – something she said required constant touch-ups during a photoshoot on the chateau grounds before the evening ceremony.
“The wedding, I believe, was supposed to start 7:30. They didn’t end up leaving us until about 7:15, 7:25,” she laughed.
“Sophie kept joking around – she was really quite funny – she kept joking around, like, ‘Well, nothing’s happening without me, so we’re fine, keep drinking champagne,’ and she was really adamant that hairstylists have champagne with her, which was really sweet … wanting us to be a part of it even though she doesn’t know us from Adam.”
Wall said her work was done before the wedding began, so she couldn’t provide any details about the ceremony.
The hairstyling team stayed in the spacious Renaissance Aix-en-Provence Hotel and were provided with drivers.
“We ate and drank very well. We were very, very well taken care of.”
A huge “Game of Thrones” fan, she said getting to meet Williams and Turner was definitely the highlight.
“Just to see what they were really like. I mean, they were both just lovely, very normal, very high-energy, normal 20-something-year-old girls.”
Despite her excitement, she maintained her professionalism, Wall said .
“Otherwise you’re not able to do these events,” she laughed.
In fact, the celebrity wedding wasn’t the first high-profile event Wall has attended. She’s worked New York Fashion Week several times as a stylist for models, the most famous of which was Gigi Hadid, who Wall described as “very sweet.”
