The saga of Game of Thrones season 8 continues. It has been two years since HBO’s money-making mint wrapped up filming, but people can’t stop talking about it. After all, the highly popular and record-breaking show divided its fandom with a controversial and a rather rushed-up final season. Not just the fans, but the cast of the series is split up upon the same issue. Some like Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner, defend it quite furiously. While others, like Charles Dance, were ready to sign the petition to change the final season. Quite unsurprisingly, Peter Dinklage belongs to the former category.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, the Tyrion Lannister fame shared his views about the fans who have been criticizing the final season of Game of Thrones. He said, “I think the reason there was some backlash about the ending is because they were angry at us for breaking up with them. We were going off the air and they didn’t know what to do with their Sunday nights anymore. They wanted more, so they backlashed about that.”
“They wanted the pretty white people to ride off into the sunset together. By the way, it’s fiction. There’s dragons in it. Move on,” he said. “The show subverts what you think, and that’s what I love about it. Yeah, it was called Game of Thrones, but at the end, the whole dialogue when people would approach me on the street was, ‘Who’s going to be on the throne?’ I don’t know why that was their takeaway because the show really was more than that.”
“Because it sort of just killed that whole conversation, which is really irreverent and kind of brilliant on behalf of the show’s creators: ‘Shut up, it’s not about that’,” he continued. “They constantly did that, where you thought one thing and they delivered another. Everybody had their own stories going on while watching that show, but nobody’s was as good as what the show delivered, I think.”
Dinklage had previously praised the Game of Thrones showrunners, despite many blaming them for the controversial finale. Do you agree with Dinklage? Talk to us in the comments below!
