Piers Morgan has ripped into Dominic Raab after comparing “taking the knee”, an act of solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, to something from Game of Thrones.
The co-host of Good Morning Britain aimed his ire at the Foreign Secretary over his recent comments and their lack of understanding, reports the Birmingham Mail.
On Monday’s show, the controversial anchorman told the TV audience: “The level of ignorance going on here – and people have to wake up.
“And for people defending Dominic Raab, do not do it by saying ‘well, nobody should force him to take the knee’.
“Nobody IS forcing him to take the knee. He was asked would he do it, he said no he wouldn’t, fine. I respect his view.”
But Piers added: “Nobody is forcing him to do it. But to have no comprehension about why people are doing it, when you are the Foreign Secretary, is shameful.
“He needs to acquaint himself with these things or don’t do the job.
“He represents us around the world.
“Imagine if he had said that in America. Imagine if he went to the White House and he said that.
“We would have literally been the laughing stock of the world. This is why it is serious.
“He is not just you, or me, or somebody in the street. He is the Foreign Secretary.
“Incredible.”
After a moment of silence, co-presenter Susanna Reid chipped in with: “So, do not listen to Dominic Raab on Game of Thrones…”
“Taking the knee” means going down on one knee as a protest. It began in 2016 when American footballer Colin Kaepernick took the knee rather than stood for the national anthem before a game, protesting against the unfair treatment of black Americans.
It has now been adopted as part of a global movement against the discrimination of black people.
