The corpse of season seven of Game of Thrones is barely cold, but already speculation is rife about the events of season eight, the final season of the show.

Fans are filling the two year wait between seasons doing what they do best – honing and crafting their own personal theories. How can the Night King be stopped? Is Cersei really pregnant? Is Samwell Tarley the man who puts the entire story of the show down on paper?
The biggest draw however is what will become of the blossoming, incestuous relationship between Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. Already there are pictures out there on the web showing her with child. However, this is clearly a fake, for the very good reason that filming on season eight is not due to start until next month.
It does lead us to the question, however, can Daenerys have children?
Daenerys certainly believes she cannot. After she uses blood magic to try and save her husband, Khal Drogo, the maegi Mirri Maz Durr offers a prophecy as to when Daenerys will see her husband might see her husband at his imperious, majestic best again:
‘When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. Then he will return, and not before.’
As it is a list of seemingly impossible events, there is the implication that Daenerys is now infertile. Furthermore, the book gives rather more graphic hints, telling us the troubles that Daenerys has with her menstrual cycle, with is best described as erratic.
However, nothing is impossible in Westeros.
What if the prophecy is referring to future events, such as the end of the Dothraki – the seas go dry – or indeed, the funeral pyre of Gregor Clegane – the mountains blow in the wind like leaves
This would open up the possibility of Daenerys having children in the future.
Finally, another clue comes from events in the House of the Undying. The winter rose is a flower that is heavily associated with Lyanna Stark – Jon Snow’s mother.
Throughout the series, several characters have visions of her with them, or of their scent, including Ned Stark. Daenerys has a vision in the House of the Undying of a winter rose blooming through a crack in the ice.
