Animation legend Genndy Tartakovsky is reportedly attached to bring Corlys Velaryon’s legendary seafaring adventures to life in 9 Voyages, the animated Game of Thrones spinoff that finally found its perfect creative home. The news comes as part of a broader expansion of the Game of Thrones universe, with several projects in development at HBO. When George R.R. Martin and HBO decided to shift this project from live-action to animation, Tartakovsky seems like the natural fit for capturing the mythic scale of The Sea Snake’s legendary expeditions.

Casey Bloys reveals the slate of Game of Thrones projects in development
The news about Tartakovsky’s attachment came via a Deadline interview with Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content. In that interview, Bloys revealed an ambitious slate of Game of Thrones spinoffs in development. “HBO has developed a slew of other offshoots, with a number being rumored to be currently in the works, including a Jon Snow and Arya Stark sequel written by Quoc Dang Tran; an animated Sea Snake project Nine Voyages, with Genndy Tartakovsky said to be attached, as well as 10,000 Ships written by Eboni Booth and Aegon’s Conquest penned by Mattson Tomlin,” Deadline reports.
While Bloys wouldn’t comment on any of the alleged development projects, he did indicate that the success of the smaller-scale, modestly-budgeted A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is informing their overall development strategy for the franchise.

Tartakovsky’s legendary career makes him the perfect choice for the Sea Snake
Genndy Tartakovsky’s signature style—minimalist, visually stunning, often leaning on silent-film storytelling techniques—is exactly what 9 Voyages needs. His work on Primal demonstrates his ability to build grand, mysterious worlds filled with danger and wonder. Samurai Jack proved he understands the mythic weight of a hero’s journey across impossible landscapes.
And his Clone Wars work showed he can handle epic-scale adventure storytelling. The Sea Snake’s nine voyages across exotic ports like Qarth, Asshai, and the Basilisk Isles demand that kind of visual imagination. Tartakovsky creates worlds where character and spectacle exist in perfect balance—where a single silent moment can communicate more than pages of dialogue.
