We have some quick hits for you this Friday morning. What’s happening in the world of Game of Thrones? Let’s take a fast trip round.
First up, Game of Thrones composer Ramin Djawadi has a shiny new gig: he’ll be creating the music for director Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time movie, based on Madeleine L’Engle beloved science fiction novel.
With the success of Thrones, Djawadi has become the go-to guy for big fantasy and sci-fi projects. In addition to this, he also scores HBO’s Westworld and FX’s The Strain. All that and he’s taking the music of Thrones on tour in 2018, too — it’s good time to be Ramin Djawadi, and his addition to the Wrinkle in Time crew gives us another reason to check the movie out when it’s released in March of next year.
Next up, Game of Thrones star Tom Hopper (Dickon Tarly) is making like cast members who’s characters have died and attending conventions. He’s currently on Oz Comic-Con in Austrailia, where AAP caught up with him and asked him a few questions about the show. How does he think the whole thing will wrap up? “My favourite theory is that Sam Tarly ends up on the throne.”
Spoken like a good fake brother. However, Hopper was quick to disabuse people of the notion that he has any inside info. “What’s weird about it is when they want to know those answers from me, someone who played Dickon Tarly for four episodes, it’s a bit bizarre to me because I don’t really hold any weight,” he said. “Maybe they think I know something more or I know something and I’m going to let something slip, but really my opinion is completely useless I think.”
That’s the thing about being on Game of Thrones, though: interest is so high that even actors who play minor characters are scrutinized. Plus, even though Dickon didn’t have a ton of screen time, he made the most of it; Hopper suspects it might have something to do with the name, and enjoyed the memes that sprung from it. “There was one with Dickon and then Alfie’s character with ‘Dick Off’ put next to each other, which I thought was quite clever, there’s been quite a lot of those.”
And of course, Dickon’s death-by-dragonfire was memorable as well. “You know how long you’re going to be on the show for and how you’re going to die and everything,” he said.
For me, I think with Game of Thrones a huge part of it is, if you’re going to die, what is the death? When they told me what it was I was like ‘Well that’s pretty cool, by firing squad by a dragon, so I took it with open arms big time.
Finally, the news recently broke that “Hardhome” and “Battle of the Bastards” director Miguel Sapochnik would be returning to direct episodes of Game of Thrones season 8 after sitting out season 7. Sapochnik himself confirmed the report on Twitter:
And he also directed “The Winds of Winter”; that’s quite a resume. I think we can all agree that we’re excited to see what he does with the final season.
