Game of Thrones star Richard Madden has recalled his ‘fond memories’ of working on the fantasy series despite his character’s brutal early exit.

Richard, 36, played leading man Robb Stark for three seasons before being violently killed off during the infamous Red Wedding.

The wedding, in the ninth episode of season three, saw Robb, his mother Catelyn (Michelle Fairley), and wife Talisa (Oona Chaplin) betrayed by their allies.

In one of the most shocking TV twists of all time, the three of them, plus thousands of their loyal soldiers, were massacred during the celebrations.

The scene became a viral sensation on social media and is often credited with vastly increasing Game of Thrones’ international popularity.

10 years on, Richard has said he has ‘fond memories’ of working on the series, which ran for another five seasons, winning multiple Emmys.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, he said: ‘I can’t believe that. That has aged me. I still have fond memories of that whole experience.’

He continued: ‘I mean, not of that particular scene, but the whole experience I have fond memories of.’

Richard was speaking to ET about his latest show, Citadel, an Amazon Prime Video thriller that will be available to stream from April 28.

His Citadel co-star, Indian actress Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, 40, joked that she ‘still has PTSD’ from watching the episode’s initial broadcast in 2013.

Comparing his and Priyanka’s new series to Game of Thrones, Richard said: ‘It’s nice to be back into recurring series drama where you get time to tell a story.’

‘You get these huge payoffs like [the Red Wedding], three seasons deep. We got to have this horrible death with characters that you’re invested in.’

An ambitious series, which has already been renewed for a second season, the plan is already for there to be several Citadel spin-offs set in different countries.

‘I think that’s our ambition here [with Citadel],’ Richard said, ‘to create a huge world and get to know these people well.’

It was revealed last month that Priyanka wound up with a scar on her forehead from an incident that occurred during Citadel filming.

‘I don’t even cover it anymore,’ she admitted.

Watch Citadel on Amazon Prime from April 28.
