Bodyguard star Richard Madden may have made his name on Game of Thrones – but that didn’t mean he made his money there.
The actor, who played Robb Stark in the fantasy epic, revealed that he got paid ‘fuck all’ for his time on the show, because he wasn’t a big enough name to get a hefty pay packet.
Speaking to The Sunday Times, the actor said: ‘People think I am [loaded] because of Game Of Thrones, but you know, when I signed up for that I was 22, with fuck all on my CV, so I was paid fuck all.’
Luckily for him, he’s managed to balance him out a fair bit more these days, especially as the troubled leading man in new BBC smash drama, Bodyguard.
In the show, Richard is seen mixing business with pleasure as David Budd, who gets romantically involved with the Home Secretary Julia Montague (played by Keeley Hawes), while working as his bodyguard.
As the third episode wrapped tonight, it appeared that several characters could have lost their lives in the latest terror attack held in the middle of a party conference.
However, it appears that both have ulterior motives – though neither have admitted what they are just yet, and it’s keeping viewers hooked.
Speaking about the gender pay gap debate, Richard admitted that while he didn’t know how much his co-star was paid, he imagined that she earned more than him for her role.
He added: ‘I care less about how much other people are paid, and more what it takes for me to shut up and go and do my job.’
However, one person who isn’t so taken with the show is Prime Minister Theresa May.
(Which is understandable, considering watching other people in stressful jobs in politics won’t take the edge off when she tries to relax in front of the box of an evening).
May apparently switched the show off after 20 minutes, according to The Independent, and prefers watching something less hard-going on TV.
May said: ‘I watch TV to unwind – I’m not sure a drama about a female home secretary is the best way for me to do that.’
Bodyguard continues next Sunday at 9pm on BBC1.
