Surprisingly high praise.
Game of Thrones drew to a close this year after nine years on air as one of the most popular television series of all time.
However the final highly anticipated season and the grand finale left a lot of fans disappointed and underwhelmed with many accusing the writers and showrunners of rushing the show’s ending.
Despite this there have been those who have praised an defended how the show’s was closed out, and now the writers of another popular series have had their say.
Rick and Morty creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland have finally voiced their opinions on the finale of Game of Thrones and they’re surprisingly positive about the show’s ending.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly Dan Harmon said: “I was afraid to watch it for a while because I didn’t want it to end,”
“I wanted to keep this soap opera in my life. But I knew it had to end, and I was as satisfied as I possibly could be watching a staple in my life wrap up and all of the characters taking each other out.”
He also addressed the backlash the show received adding : “As a showrunner, I was amazed at the amount they were able to accomplish — especially given the meta-reality of having run out of books to adapt.
“I was aware of the disappointment factor with [Daenerys Targaryen’s]Â dark turn. I’m not going to say fans are too cynical and ungrateful, but I guess I did just say that.”
Co-creator Roiland also had similar praised for the HBO series saying:”There’s not going to be another show that big,”
“I shouldn’t say that because there’s always something potentially looming around the corner.
“But that show was a phenomenon. It was insanely big. Everybody was watching it.”
Pretty nice words from fellow showrunners and die hard fans of the show.
It also helps that the pair have had no issue criticising or poking fun at pop culture in their own cartoon series.
