Game of Thrones was the biggest show of the 21st century. It set new records for viewership, awards won and the budget required to make the show. Being such a big hit ensured that the fans will get to return to Westeros, and that’s why we got the prequel series House of The Dragon. However an upcoming Apple TV Plus crime drama is going to put both Game of Thrones and House of The Dragon to shame – at least in terms of its budget.

Ridley Scott, the creator of the famous Alien movie series, is coming up with a TV adaptation of the crime thriller novel Dope Thief by Dennis Tafoya. The project, titled Sinking Spring, stars Michael Mando of Better Call Saul and Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) as two friends posing as DEA agents. The official synopsis reads:
“Follows long-time friends and delinquents who pose as DEA agents to rob a house in the countryside, but end up unintentionally revealing and unraveling the biggest hidden narcotics corridor on the Eastern seaboard.”
The most interesting thing about the series so far is its massive budget – the pilot episode alone cost over $50 million. That is almost as much as the budget of the entire first season of Game of Thrones! Season 1 of the HBO hit cost around $50-60 million, which breaks down to $5-6 million per episode. The only show that comes close is Amazon’s The Rings of Power, which sits at a smug $58 million per episode.
