GOT landed three nominations, after its solo Globes nod (Picture: Rex)

After its Golden Globe snub, Game Of Thrones has finally been thrown a bone, albeit a very small one, as it landed three Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations today.

Earlier this week, Game Of Thrones’ final season was sensationally snubbed from this year’s Golden Globes nominations – meaning it will now never win the drama TV series gong.

The show has been previously nominated five times for the award but has been pipped at the post in past years by other shows in their categories. After failing to get a nomination last year either, this upcoming 2020 ceremony was the last time the HBO fantasy series would qualify – and instead, it missed out.

While Kit Harington was the sole recipient of any nomination for the show, for the best actor in a drama TV series award, there seems to be a little more luck when it comes to the SAG Awards.

It is in the running for three awards, which while is a drop in the ocean of what it usually reaps at these sorts of fancy industry shindigs, is nothing to sneeze at following the Globes.

For his role as Tyrion Lannister, Peter Dinklage was nominated today for outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series, while the whole cast was given the green light in the outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series category.

They’ll go up against the cast of Big Little Lies, The Crown, The Handmaid’s Tale and Stranger Things and judging by the almost politically polarising reaction to the final season of the HBO show, we can’t imagine they’ll come out on top.

Sorry, sorry, we must be more positive – they’re in with a shot, right?

There was also the cast recognition in the outstanding performance by a stunt ensemble in a television series category.

Earlier this week the proverbial hit the fan after GOT was snubbed for the categories it usually earns a nod in, with the 2020 run of ceremonies the final chance for it to grasp a gong.

Speaking about the nomination, Kit admitted he was ‘sad’ for his castmates.

He will compete against Rami Malek for Mr Robot, Brian Cox for Succession, Billy Porter for Pose and Tobias Menzies for The Crown. Kit told The Hollywood Reporter he ‘didn’t expect to be nominated’ for the award in 2020.

‘I thought the show might be, but I was just at home, learning lines, and then my publicists called,’ he explained.

‘It was very unexpected and wonderful.’

He added that he was ‘sad’ no one else from the show got a nod, saying: ‘Obviously I wanted everyone to be nominated, and I feel like they should, as anyone who loves their show and loves their cast and crew would feel and want.

‘I’m happy for my nomination… so I’ll represent the show on my own. I’ll do my best.’

The Golden Globes will be held on 5 January and the SAG Awards on 19 January.
