After a week off, it’s time for another episode of A Song of Dan and Josh, the show where myself — a guy who has read the Song of Ice and Fire books way too many times — and Josh Hill — who has only ever seen Game of Thrones — go step by step through each and every chapter of George R.R. Martin’s unfinished magnum opus. Join us!
Today, we’re breaking down Sansa II from A Clash of Kings. Let’s get into it!
Sansa is still grappling with her preconceived notions of chivalry here, trusting Dontos Hollard to help get her out of King’s Landing not because he’s trustworthy but because he swears an oath in front of a heart tree and compares himself to a figure from a popular song…and because he’s really her only option. Dontos’ idealistic performance of knighthood is contrasted with the Hound, who wants no part of chivalry. Who’s really trustworthy here, and can Sansa figure it out before it’s too late?
