Sean Bean is back! Sort of! (Picture: YouTube)

Sean Bean and Game Of Thrones author George RR Martin made a surprise appearance on a bizarre Jimmy Fallon sketch, to reassure people when season eight is actually coming.

The Tonight Show sketch saw the ‘regular-sized council’ form, featuring Lord Black Thought, Steve Higgins as Varys and Fallon, all to ask the simple question: ‘How long must we f**king wait till Game Of Thrones?’

As the council mourn over the shows they’ve been forced to watch in its absence, with a particular pop at Young Sheldon, Sean Bean turns up to channel his deceased Game Of Thrones character Eddard Stark.

‘Silence! Patience my lord,’ Sean says. ‘Your temper will not hasten the end you seek.

‘The premiere is coming, but until then, we mustn’t lose our heads. You get it?’

After his appearance, George RR Martin turns up to reaffirm there’s another book on the way too, adding: ‘The final season premieres April 14. But have no fear, once the show ends there will still be books.’

But where is the book, George? It’s been eight years since A Dance With Dragons, George.

The pair aren’t the only Game Of Thrones stars to have fun and frolics on US chat shows, with Kit Harington recently hosting Saturday Night Live.

Game Of Thrones returns 14 April on HBO and Sky Atlantic.
