While the reception to House of the Dragon’s second season has been mixed, HBO’s focus is now shifting to its next big prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. EVP and Head of Drama, HBO Programming for Home Box Office, Francesca Orsi, recently spoke to Deadline, offering some thrilling updates on the future of the show.

Fans of George R.R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas have much to look forward to, with Orsi confirming that the show’s renewal looks highly probable. HBO is eyeing seasons 2 and 3, with the plan to film both seasons back-to-back. This could allow the series to remain true to its roots while exploring Martin’s world in greater depth.

Orsi revealed that the response to the series so far has been overwhelmingly positive, with internal feedback from Martin himself adding to the excitement.

Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President of HBO Programming and Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, recently spoke to Deadline about the exciting future of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The show has received overwhelming internal praise, and Orsi shared that the plans for the future of the show are looking very good.

Orsi said:

“You’re going to be so impressed by Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell as Dunk and Egg, the two leads, the sort of brotherhood, the paternal nature between Dunk and this young man. So much so that we’re already planning on how do we build this for the three seasons in total.”

She added that while they haven’t officially picked up the series yet for Seasons 2 and 3, the feedback from Martin has been extremely positive. Orsi continued:

“We’re looking at it as a holistic piece, Seasons 2 and 3, because there’s three novellas.”

Orsi also addressed the challenges of adapting a story where the central character, Egg, grows so quickly:

“The role of Egg only spans not even a year, so you have to roll into it season to season pretty quickly, because this little kid will grow up too quickly if we wait too long.”
