Today is George Lucas’ 77th birthday, and people from across the internet are honoring the man who created Star Wars. That includes Game of Thrones writer Bryan Cogman, who shared a photo of an event that we’d previously only heard about…
You see, back when HBO was filming the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones, Lucas stopped by the set for a visit. “He could have [made a cameo], with the beard!” joked Lima Cunningham (Davos Seaworth). “That’s not a bad idea. We should have stuck him in.” It was surely a fun experience, having this cinema icon on the set of a show that had become pretty iconic himself. Cogman made sure to get a picture while the getting was good, and shared it earlier today:
That’s pretty cool! They look like they’re standing on the set of Winterfell, if I’m not mistaken.
George Lucas loves popping up on random sets
Lucas has a history of showing up on various film and TV sets, whether they’re related to something he created or not. For instance, remember him bonding with Baby Yoda on the set of The Mandalorian?
Where we Lucas show up next? Nobody knows, but we’ll keep an eye out.
As for Cogman, he’s working with Entertainment One to develop a series based on Arika Kurosawa’s 1961 samurai classic Yojimbo. Maybe one day he’ll make his way back around to the Game of Thrones universe, but for now I’m sure that series will benefit from his talents.
