As we speak, the Prince Charles Cinema in London is marathoning EVERY SINGLE EPISODE of Game of Thrones, one after the other, for three straight days and nights. The marathon started last night at 7:00 p.m., and will continue through 6:00 p.m. this Thursday, with occasional breaks for food because people need to eat to live.
This is a terrific way to capitalize on what may be the most serialized show in the history of television. Game of Thrones is basically one huge movie, so why not show it in a movie theater uninterrupted? Here’s what the schedule looks like going forward:
The whole shebang is free to watch, and while tickets were snapped up pretty quickly, the Prince Charles Cinema will announce a handful of new ones available at the door each day on its Twitter page. So keep a close eye on that if you want in.
As you can see below, the fans in attendance are very pleased about it:
They are in for such a good time…
This whole thing is being done to hype the release of the forthcoming Game of Thrones season 7 Blu-ray boxset, as well as the seasons 1-7 complete boxset. Both are due out on December 12. But really, Game of Thrones fans don’t need a special reason to pile in to a theater to watch their favorite show on the big screen. This show was made for the big screen.
It looks like the Prince Charles Cinema has gone the extra mile to make the marathon feel special, as Game of Thrones star Hannah Waddingham (Septa Unella) showed up to kick things off:
Two things: 1) That’s a neat leopard vest, and; 2) What do you want a bet that the audience started yelling “Shame! Shame! Shame!” the second Waddingham stepped out?
Anyway, best of luck to the theatergoers — the journey will be long, but worth it. And for those who still want to get in, pay attention to the Prince Charles Cinema Twitter account for ticket information.
