Sophie Turner clearly isn’t reading the Game Of Thrones fan pages now the show is over, because this is the moment Jessica Chastain told her how the show’s marketing may have played the biggest trick on us all.
When asked by Metro.co.uk if there was any foreshadowing throughout her character Sansa Stark’s arc across the eight seasons, she admitted she would need to look back to double check before joking that in the first ‘episode Sansa goes, “I want to be queen mommy someday”‘.
But it’s Jessica, her Dark Phoenix co-star who offers the biggest reveal, telling Sophie how the season one marketing poster may have revealed that final development all the way back in 2011.
The last episode of the show aired on 19 May and controversially saw Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) – aka The Three Eyed Raven – become the person to nab the Iron Throne.
While, for many, the twist came out of nowhere, the poster for the first season featuring Ned Stark (Sean Bean) seems to have included a clue to this result all along.
In the poster, Ned is seen sat beside a raven. You know, like The Three-Eyed Raven Bran eventually became over the course of eight seasons? You buying this?
Sophie was left shook by the news, so it looks like the cast really were not in on the joke at all.
Although, the show actually ended with no one sitting on the Iron Throne after dragon Drogon burned it to a crisp when Jon Snow (Kit Harington) killed Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).
The remaining Houses all reunited at King’s Landing to decide the fate of Jon and Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage), over their betrayals against Daenerys.
It’s quickly noted how they should appoint someone to take charge, with a convincing speech from Tyrion leading to Bran becoming the ruler of the six kingdoms; in a nice twist, Bran then appoints Tyrion to be the Hand Of The King in order to rectify his past mistakes.
Sansa chose to return to the North and become Queen of her own new territory, while sister Arya (Maisie Williams) decided to head west and explore uncharted territory.
Dark Phoenix is out in the UK on 5 June. Game of Thrones seasons one to eight are available to stream on NOW TV.
