The need of the hour is to stay at home and practice social distancing if and when you go out. Coronavirus is infecting people left, right, and center, and thus, we have to realize the importance of isolating ourselves from social interactions. Public figures of all domains are urging people to be aware of the facts and stay safe. Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) has been quite vocal about her views regarding COVID-19. While talking to TV host Conan O’Brien on a video chat recently, she stressed the message of social distancing yet again with firm words.
Conan enquired Sophie if she is staying safe and quarantined. To which, she said, “Yes, very very safe, very very quarantined. I’m kind of loving it.” Turner further revealed that she generally enjoys staying home. “I’m an introvert, I’m a homebody. If I could stay at home all day I would. So, this is great for me. I leave the house like once a day anyway to walk my dog and then that’s it.”
It doesn’t look that easy for everyone to not venture outside and stay indoors strictly. But social distancing is not a choice anymore. “I see how people are finding it difficult, but I don’t understand how people are really struggling to practice social distancing,” Sophie said. Conan raised the issue of people not abiding by the guidelines of self-isolation and social distancing; and how it’s made her “unhappy”. Sophie agreed and said, “I think it’s pissing everyone off who is making an effort to stay in and really trying to slow the spread of the virus.”
She also informed us that a few of her family members are on the frontline of defense against the coronavirus and that it’s a cause of concern that some people are acting casually. “My eldest brother and my sister-in-law are doctors in the UK and they just got transferred to the ICU. And it’s so frustrating seeing these people going out and spring-breaking all over the place…I don’t understand how you can be that selfish to put doctors’ lives at risk who are going to end up treating you. And then you know, becoming vulnerable to the infection by treating you.”
The Dark Phoenix actress briefly concluded her message by saying, “If we can all stay home, I mean you’re literally being asked to do nothing...It should be fairly easy.” It’s an important thing to understand as the virus has cost close to 44,000 deaths worldwide. The number of infected people at the moment stands near 880,000 across almost 200 territories. Many high-profile personalities have tested positive for the virus; such as the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Prince Charles, Idris Elba, Tom Hanks. Game of Thrones stars aren’t left untouched as well. Kristofer Hivju (Tormund) was the first, and later, Indira Varma tested positive for COVID-19. Indira shared the stage with Emilia Clarke for their West End play, The Seagull a few days before her test. This, in turn, raised concerns about possible infection for Emilia and other cast members.
