You can currently catch Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones, where she’s currently staring daggers at Daenerys Targaryen and preparing to defend humanity for an onslaught of undead ice monsters. Unfortunately, that show will wrap up soon enough. But you’ll only have to wait a couple months after that to see Turner on the big screen in Dark Phoenix, playing a telepath possessed by a celestial force who loses control and goes ham all over her friends, enemies, tanks, helicopters, etc. Check out the final trailer:
So far as we can tell, Dark Phoenix will be the final movie in Fox’s X-Men franchise before Disney takes control of the characters, quite possibly recasting them. The movie tells a classic story from the X-Men comics, about mild-mannered telepath Jean Grey getting access to tremendous power and just wrecking s**t all over the place. By the looks of the trailer, the movie is sticking much closer to the comics than previous big screen adaptations of this story, like X-Men: The Last Stand. Will that result in a better movie?
Well, hopefully; it’d be nice for this cast to go out on a high note, assuming this is their last hurrah. Unfortunately, test screenings haven’t been positive, but then again, it’s amazing what a little editing and a reshoot or two can do.
Good or bad, X-Men: Dark Phoenix hits theaters on June 7.
