I believe you are right about the redhead being a love interest. It was either late 2016 or sometime within the first half of 2017 that I read an article of the directors mentioning in an interview that the redhead character will be a love interest. She'll actually be part of some love triangle among the boys, and at least two of them for sure. Maybe not Mike since Eleven is his love interest. But if I remember correctly what I read she'll be in some love triangle with Lucas and Dustin and the two boys will be competing for her. Will could be one of the two boys, but I'm sure he'll be too busy with all the tests being done on him and dealing with those connections with the Upside Down and trying to put an end to it and stuff. So Will probably won't be around her much. Mike COULD be interested in her at first, but once he is reunited with Eleven, he'll forget about the redhead. It does show all four boys looking at her and being interested in her in the "Thriller" trailer (I think it was that trailer). So that's where I'm thinking Mike will be interested in the redhead at first but stops once Eleven returns, which allows Dustin and Lucas to fight over the redhead
