Finn Bennett says the moment Egg’s true identity is revealed in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is where the story truly clicks into place. And not just for viewers, but for Aerion Targaryen as well.

Bennet spoke regarding this in an interview with Vulture, that was published on February 3, 2026 following the release of episode 3. He reflected on how long the show had been building toward Egg’s reveal and how that single moment reshapes everything that comes after.

Finn Bennett revealed that it’s been especially satisfying to finally talk openly about the twist, which confirms that Egg is actually Prince Aegon Targaryen. The actor admitted he’s been amused by how quickly some viewers picked up on it, even without having read George R.R. Martin’s books.

He recalled watching the first episode with a friend who immediately clocked Egg as a Targaryen, based purely on instinct. Bennett joked that his reaction was disbelief, convinced his friend must have known the story already, only to realize it was just years of watching prestige TV doing the work.

Finn’s friend commented that he figured Egg was a Targaryen from his shaved head and cocky nature.

To this, his reaction was,

“F*ck, man, you watch too much TV! So I’m really interested to see who’s figured that out beforehand.”

That reaction, Bennett suggested, speaks to how well the show plants subtle clues long before the reveal. Egg doesn’t feel like a random squire; there’s always been something slightly “off” about him.

From Aerion’s perspective, that’s exactly why the reveal changes the energy of the story so dramatically. Up until that moment, he’s lashing out at peasants, performers, and a hedge knight, acts of cruelty that feel cruel, but small. Once Egg reveals himself as Aegon, everything escalates. Family, legacy, and power suddenly enter the equation.

That’s where Bennett says things become “suddenly really exciting.”

Egg’s identity doesn’t calm Aerion down or make him rethink his actions. Instead, it validates his worldview. The conflict is no longer beneath him.

Bennett’s comments also highlight how carefully A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms plays with audience expectations. The reveal feels shocking, but in hindsight, it feels inevitable, more like a twist hiding in plain sight. And once it lands, it propels the story forward in a way that feels earned rather than gimmicky.

For Aerion Targaryen, Egg’s unmasking isn’t actually a complication. The moment the truth comes out, the stakes rise, the tension sharpens, and the story finally opens up into something much bigger.
