Lesley Manville has admitted she can’t watch her new show Citadel because of the violence.

The Crown actress, 67, stars in the upcoming Amazon Prime thriller alongside Richard Madden, Stanley Tucci and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.

The series follows two spies who are living in hiding under new identities reactivated to stop a powerful and evil syndicate from establishing a new world order.

But when asked about the violence in Citadel, Lesley commented: ‘Oh, I can’t watch violence. I don’t watch any. It’s a big topic, really.’

Lesley, who confessed she hadn’t watched the final edit, continued to The Guardian: ‘I hate it, basically. I get offended by it. I really think it’s bad news. People talk about Game of Thrones. I’ve never been able to watch it.

‘Also, it’s pretty violent towards women. I really don’t want to see that.’

The Magpie Murder star’s comments come after Citadel star-studded London’s premiere, during which Metro.co.uk spoke to Priyanka.

Asked about the public reaction to the new venture, with people branding her and Richard’s characters the hottest spies in the world, she let out a laugh.

Priyanka continued: ‘Aw I think that’s awesome! The show means so much to us, we’ve put so much work into the show.

Lesley said she has been unable to ever watch Game of Thrones (Picture: HBO)

‘It’s five years in the making, it was almost one and a half years filming it, so you know, it feels really, really great to be able to get positive reactions to the work.’

Executive producers the Russo Brothers also shared some insight into Citadel’s next move from the red carpet.

Joe and Anthony shared that they were taking their concept – that also has Italian and Indian spin-offs – to Rome with none other than actor Stanley as their premiere plus one.

When questioned over whether the famous foodie would be joining them on their Italian adventures, the producing pair mischievously replied: ‘Maybe. We’ll see.

‘Stanley’s going to bring us! We’re off to Rome next on the press tour and Stanley’s going with us.

‘The thing I’m most excited about is where we’re going to dinner with Stanley on Friday night.

Citadel starts on Amazon Prime on 28 April.
