Daenerys Targaryen & Doreah
Since her marriage to Khal Drogo in season 1 of Game of Thrones, Daenerys “Stormborn” Targaryen was feeling a lack of respect in her sexual relationship with her sexy but brutal new hubby. Her handmaid Doreah, a formally trained sex slave, senses this and teaches Daenerys ways to take initiative during sex. It’s a sensual scene that also manages to be empowering.
The scene represents an important development for Daenerys as she exerts more power over her life. Daenerys has been harassed and abused by both her brother Viserys and Khal Drogo, so seeing her empower herself is a great character moment.
Missandei & Grey Worm
Missandei & Grey Worm are both sexually repressed due to their former roles as slaves (and the mental & physical scarring that goes with it). However, they feel a strong connection to one another throughout Game of Thrones. Their sexual tension begins to rise, and finally boils over during this scene.
Grey Worm delivers a heartwarming, moving speech in which he confesses his love for Missandei. The characters relieve their sexual tension and the years of repression they’ve both undergone.
Brother Jon Snow & Ygritte
After claiming Jon “knows nothing” throughout Game of Thrones, Ygritte finally decides to teach him something. Jon follows Ygritte into a grotto in which she seduces him. Jon hesitates due to the oath of celibacy made to the Night’s Watch. However, his attraction to Ygritte eventually wins and he gives in to his natural urges.
This scene is very sensual as Jon loses his virginity and Ygritte & Jon profess their mutual attraction for one another through their actions. It’s also an important character moment for Jon as he begins to lose his prejudice against the wildlings and their culture.
Daenerys Targaryen & Khal Drogo
This is the first time Daenerys & Khal Drogo have sex after Daenerys got some sexy lessons from her handmaid. Here, Daenerys demands Drogo & she share eye contact with one another. Drogo now begins to develop a feeling of respect for her and Daenerys stands (or lays) in her power.
This scene leads to Daenerys & Drogo developing actual feelings of intimacy with one another – rather than Drogo exerting his will & control exclusively. Throughout Game of Thrones, Daenerys seeks respect from others – and this is where her success in this begins.
King Robb Stark & Talisa
Robb has an important choice to make because he loves Talisa, but he also promised Walder Frey he would marry one of his daughters. In this scene, the King in the North confesses his love for Talisa and decides he’d rather marry Talisa, even if it hurts his war against the “flowery seats in the South” strategically.
Robb & Talisa share a scene of romance & lust as they give in to their love for one another. Unfortunately, Robb’s decision ends up tragically, as Lord Frey is unforgiving. Robb’s rash decision leads directly to the Red Wedding, perhaps the most shocking scene in all of Game of Thrones.
Lord Stannis Baratheon & Melisandre
Red Priestess of R’hllor Melisandre is a professional in the art of seduction and uses her skills here to manipulate Stannis into cheating on his wife in a moment of pure lust. Stannis lays Melisandre down on the battle map and they go at it like dragons on a stone.
It’s a rather strange scene in Game of Thrones as the audience is conflicted: Melisandre is using Lord Stannis Baratheon for her personal gain, but the audience is helpless to stop Stannis from giving in to his urges. In hindsight, the fact that this scene leads to a murderous smoke baby being extruded from Melisandre’s womb kills some of its excitement.
Daenerys Targaryen & Daario Naharis
Daario & Daenerys have sexual tension from the very moment they see each other. It isn’t until Daenerys takes charge that they finally decide to break the tension. It’s the first time Daenerys gets intimate with anyone since Drogo’s death, a turning point signaling the end of her mourning.
Daario is a confident Game of Thrones character, but Daenerys being the one who takes charge might just make this scene even more steamy.
