Award winning unofficial prequel short film dramatising Aragorn & Gandalf’s long search for Gollum directed by British filmmaker Chris Bouchard. Based faithfully on the appendices of the books this is a non-profit, serious homage to the writing of J.R.R Tolkien and the films of Peter Jackson.

It was shot on locations in England and Snowdonia with a team of over a hundred people working over the Internet. It took two years to make and was released as a non-profit Internet-only video by agreement with Tolkien Enterprizes.

This Youtube version is slightly extended with 1 scene added back in.

  1. Damn, I'm raising money for my first film right now and I've already gotten $6k and I still couldn't see myself doing this good a job with the amount they used. These people should be working in Hollywood, for real. They made this with approximately 4k USD. Imagine what they can do with $3 million or 30 million dollars? I tip my hat to you guys. Excellent film.

  2. This is really very well done. For a small, independent cinema group, it captures the events better than even the great New Line Cinema company could. You cast wonderful people in the roles, especially Aragorn's. Also, Gollum was extremely well written.

  3. This is astounding. Considering it will have been shot on a very limited budget I have nothing but praise for all concerned. I am a lighting cameraman and tend to watch films with different eyes. I have to say that the whole film was cleverly shot. (how to involve Gollum without seeing him – Brilliant) Great costume and make up and the fight sequence was excellent. I think the casting was pure genius and the direction was spot on. Well done to all involved. I know how much work has gone into producing this film.

  4. I told myself I would watch just 2 minutes of this just to see what it's like. I at first didn't like the fact that there were diff actors (obv there had to be, I realize that), but it grew on me more and more, and I couldn't help but watch the entire movie. Great work!

  5. Excellent editing for a low budget fandom movie.  Lotr left out so many important characters, although I thought it was well done.  I needed Tom Bombadil, Goldberry  Old man Willow, the Barrow Downs, Bill Ferny, nob

  6. Well Done…Insert Applause Here.,(………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………).

  7. Hitler and the SS – have been the dark Lord Sauron and the ORCS – incarnated in Germen Souls – the Lament of the Edda: "the Frosttree – Germens are SATAN the murderer and Liar from the beginning on – of the Germens is not matching the Life tree of the Jews" – so it is a categorical Imperative for the Germens – HEGEL – to be or not to be – to be Christians and praise the LORD for breathing – or they have no Chance to survive – listen to These Skinhead Nazis they have voices like the orcs! — and the ANTICHRIST is rising in Germany – they think wrong "we cannot see God – so there is no God"!! — and itself at Christmas they refuse Remission  of the Lord and sell their souls for Christmas Money – to thje Devil!

  8. stumbled upon this purely by chance. I have to say that I think you've done an amazing job. The costumes and locations are fantastic. I have spent a lot of time in snowdonia, Gwynedd and the surrounding area. I used to camp on shell island every summer. The scenery really adds to the feel of the film and looks very much like the world described by Tolkien. Great story and brilliant acting. Thank you very much for sharing.

  9. I feel ashamed of myself for not knowing about this and watching it sooner! Bravo!!! Many thanks to all involved. I actually prefer this to the style of the Jackson films, much more true to Tolkien, the action is short and starkly violent, with much better dialogue and building of suspense, etc. this shows that a few moments of violence can be more powerful than hours worth in the films. And does Aragorn remind anyone else of Luke Skywalker era Mark Hamill? I think he does better than Viggo, but that is no doubt a result of writing and direction (not bashing Viggo, he had an egomaniac director to deal with). Anyway , I digress, many cheers to you!

  10. This is incredible. They have it on DVD and Blu-ray The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy, but they should make an extended version and include this on the special feature of "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies". I don't how to give enough credit to you guys.
