ok, how's this theory. What if cat's paw is a piece of Dark Sister(Visenya Targaryen's Sword). Nobody know's Cats Paw's origin except Bran. It would make alot of sense for Bran to give the dagger to his Dark Sister………..
the black piece is dragon glass not dragon bone, if you read the text in the book, this part explains that the Aegon the conqueror decendants would decorate their blades with dragon glass, etc…
Metal + dragon fire
maybe made from same sword
isn't catspaw and longclow seems familiar
How fitting that while Aria was training with needle in season one she was seen trying to sneak up on a cat by her Father. Sneaking up on cat's paw. 🤔 (be very very quiet)
I think the daggers name is Valonqar (Little Brother) and it's a sibling blade to Dark Sister.
Regarding the catspaw dagger I would like to suggest that if you are interested in its origin that you examine the images in the book that Sam Tarly is reading (which shows the catspaw dagger), notice the diagram on the top left of a broken sword with an identical blade for file (the remaining piece) to the blade of the dagger. This suggests to me that the sword shard was refitted to create the dagger which then begs the question "which valerian steel sword was broken". Could this be a shard of Light Bringer?
Wow nice catch, I never noticed the illustration of the dagger in those scrolls Sam studies. That dagger is pretty slick, perfect weapon to be wielded by No One. Wink Wink.
wasted minutes of my life.
I think the Cats Paw is Dark Sister. It's Valyrian steel, a hand-and-a-half, has Dragonglass adorning it and is made with the bone of a dragon. The perfect weapon for a Targaryen queen.
rub some oil on the dagger and set it on fire then go battle the night king simple
The Last Hero's Sword, Lightbringer supposedly broke according to lore. What if…Lightbringer was reforged and is now Catspaw!!!!???
You might be wrong it has dragon bone but it was said that the valerian's decorated their Valerian steel swords with dragon glass
Cat's Paw= Catelyn's Paw, Arya is Catelyn's Paw as she is her daughter and her form of revenge, quite literally her "Paw". The name of the dagger foreshadows Arya killing Littlefinger/ enemies of house stark.
Did anyone read the book in the scene? It says in the book that the valyrians used dragonflame to melt the dragonglass so it can become malleable. Also they used it to adorn the hilts and pommels of their swords.
It was eagon dagger
I appreciate the pacing of your video. So many reviewers have "trying to hard to be ASMR syndrome."
Cats paw is a person used unwittingly or unwillingly by another to accomplish the other's own purpose.
Woah woah woah I've been watching it and I don't remember the azor ahai person what's that about
Shattered after being quenched in a lion – cats paw. The relation is obvious. Perhaps a shard even ended up in the lions paw.
Do you know the meaning of the word extrusive? Obsidian is formed from lava not magma it's formed from eruptions and the lava rapidly cooling like when lava meets water a rock formed inside the heart of a volcano (however unlikely since that's probably all magma) would be intrusive and show qualities more like basalt or granite.
Ser Hunts analysis is very well thought out and full of interesting facts.
It means George Martin read some Fritz Leiber back in the day and politely borrowed the name of a famous dagger.
It's called the cats paw dagger, because a cats paw used it to attempt to kill Bran….
So Littlefinger betrayed ned stark in Season 1 and held thst ddagger to his throat right? Shouldnt bran know this by now?
Christ!!!! If the bloody dagger is called catspaw, why don't littlefinger say, here's a dagger bran called catspaw ??? Because it's not fucking called catspaw, that was the term for the half assed assassin sent to kill bran , Jesus people have videos out and are getting all worked up about ridiculous theories based on fresh fucking air , is the dagger ever referred to as Catspaw ??? Hell no , sorry it's just really annoying as it's quiet a well known term for a person who's does the nasty work for someone else.
bakwas…
Its the only weapon able to kill the night king
That dagger is so sick. I would totally slice my pizza with it, then give it to Aryia, and watch mystery ensue.
interesting
Has anyone actually seen that the picture of the dagger in the book, if you look to the left of the book, you see a small picture of a broken sword. Could it be that this dagger was forged from the broken sword on the left page of the book?
The dagger contains pieces of the dragon glass used by the children of the forest to create the night's king and is the only element that can undo him. Possibly.
It's called Cats Paw because it was used by the cats paw to try and kill Bran. A cats paw is just a term for a puppet or or henchman.
You mention in your video about Azor Ahai blade shattering. If you go back to the scene where Sam is going through the book, look at the picture of the broken sword on the opposite page. The broken blade looks very similar to the cats paw dagger.
There's something that's been really bugging me. Arya says "Why would a cutthroat have a valyrian steel dagger? I think people are dismissing her doubt too easily. I don't think Arya believes the official story. Why? Because Arya is without ANY DOUBT, more familiar with the criminal underworld than everyone else in her family. She knows what professional beggars, thieves, pirates, assassins, con artists, fences and cutthroats behave like. And she finds it hard to believe a common cutthroat would have this dagger on him.
The Starks have been blind about this since the beginning. They don't understand common people, let alone criminals. When they are looking at the dagger, they are judging its quality. But when a criminal looks at this weapon, they are most likely judging it's PRICE. Carrying a valyrian steel weapon around with you, is the equivalent of driving a lamborghini. To the lord of a great house, it's not a big deal. They do it all the time. But a common person would never do this. They would sell the lamborghini, or the valyrian steel dagger, and they'd buy a nice house. You don't need a super expensive dagger to cut throats. And Arya of all people, knows just how unnatural that would be. Of all the Starks, she is the ONLY one who's ever lived like a poor person. As a begger in fact. It would be like her begging for alms by holding out a golden cup. It makes no sense.
Ned's theory given is that the cutthoat was paid using this dagger. Because even Ned understands that cutthroats aren't rich enough to have valyrian steel. But that that doesn't make any sense either, because once again, the cutthroat wouldn't use this dagger to attack Bran. He would stash it, fence it, hide it under a log or something like that. This dagger = money, and criminals hide their money, so that if they get caught and later escape or are released, it will be there when they get out. Once you realize that Arya is right, and none of this assumed narrative makes any sense, it leaves precious few possibilities.
1: The dagger WAS the payment as they said, but the cutthroat didn't have time to stash this valuable dagger, or find another knife. Might as well use what he had. However, this implies that the person ordering the assassination was very close, and possibly present at winterfell on the same night.
2: The cutthroat was instructed to use the dagger on Bran for some reason. Implying that killing Bran wasn't the only (or main) goal, but that something specifically had to be done, with specifically this dagger. Perhaps there's some reason that this dagger needs to be quenched in the blood of a greenseer or something. But that would imply great knowledge, vision and sorcery. Something to keep in mind. What other reason could there be for needing the dagger specifically to be used on Bran?
3: The cutthroat was either intended to be caught and be found carrying the dagger, or was instructed to leave the dagger at the scene of the crime.
4: The common cutthroat wasn't common.
I don't see a lot of other reasons a common cutthroat would want to carry a million bucks in his hand, let alone use it.
Yeah, that whole "casting swords" thing is really stupid. Cast steel is brittle, you stimply can't make real swords out of it, only decorative pieces.
Bronze swords are almost always cast, however. Because bronze is a totally different material than steel. You cast them, then hammer the edge; instead of forging, then grinding.
Interesting ideas. Putting a hot blade through a lion isn't forging it though. It would be quenching and the beginning process of heat treating it. There are plenty of fantasy stories about quenching in blood. Unfortunately no one has really figured out how to make it work as the blood just burns. The shattering of the sword when quenching is not uncommon though. Many blades, especially highly alloyed or high carbon blades can be vulnerable to severe cracks if either the steel is to hot or the quenching medium too cold. This would make an exceptionally hard metal fragments which are unsuitable for a sword but alright for a dagger. Good stuff though. I really enjoy speculation about the origins, practicality and lore surrounding fantasy blades. Good on you for filling that niche.
AWESOME REVIEW..
