House of the Dragon season 2 episode 6 was full of surprises. With Aemond dismissing Alicent from the council and threatening Aegon II to Rhaenyra’s search for dragonriders and war strategy, it has furthered the narrative into murky waters where predicting the next move of a character is close to impossible.
However, no one saw the one surprise towards the climax of the episode coming.
Sonoya Mizuno reveals Mysaria’s kiss with Rhaenyra was unscripted

After Rhaenys, Rhaenyra finds herself getting closer to Mysaria, who can provide a comforting ear and shoulder to lean on. Her advice has paid off in many aspects as the rest of the council fails to look at the big picture. Moreover, Mysaria is able to guide Rhaenyra to listen to the small folk who can turn the tide of the war overnight.
Mysaria successfully executes the plan and sends food over to King’s Landing, consolidating Rhaenyra’s position as a sympathetic ruler. Consequently, when Rhaenyra vents about her inadequacy as a Queen or to win the war, it is Mysaria who comforts and reassures her. In the absence of Daemon and any sort of love in her life, Rhaenyra is warmed by Mysaria’s empathy and hugs her.
Naturally, two women who are so similar in nature, get drawn to each other. They kissed passionately, leaving viewers surprised. Actress Sonoya Mizuno told The Wrap that the kiss was Emma D’Arcy’s idea.
“It wasn’t scripted as a kiss. I think it was scripted as … there’s just breath between them or something, and then whatever happens is interrupted.”
She further adds how the two actors and showrunner Ryan Condal spent a long time deciding how this scene will play out. Mizuno continues, “Because we were separate in the room … [and] Mysaria has told this story, [D’Arcy] felt the instinct to hold her, to comfort her. From that, it felt so organic to go into the kiss.”
Mysaria and Rhaenyra are soon interrupted by a knight who informs the Queen of a dragon rider claiming Seasmoke. The immense cliffhanger will leave fans wondering what happens next. Will Rhaenyra and Mysaria confront their feelings? Or was it just a momentary lapse? We’ll have to wait and see.
