Television giant HBO has been churning out hits-after-hits every year ever since its establishment. While 2022 belonged to the Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon, the year 2023 is off to a great start with The Last of Us. The video game adaptation already broke the Game of Thrones prequel’s record with its blockbuster premiere. And it seems like it already secured a higher full-season viewership number right after the finale premiered.

How many viewers watched The Last of Us Season 1?

According to a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter, The Last of Us Season 1 finale averaged 8.2 million viewers across all platforms for HBO. The series’ first six episodes are averaging 30.4 million viewers since its premiere on Jan. 15, with the debut episode cumulating 40 million viewers. This would make its viewership numbers bigger than House of The Dragon, which averaged 29 million cross-platform viewers over the course of its run in 2022.

When does The Last of Us Season 2 begin filming?

In a recent interview with Collider, Pascal said, “In the year 2023? Oh, what season are we in now? We’re getting into spring? Yes, there is a chance. Yes.” The first season of The Last of Us took around 18 months to film. So, looking at the time gap, there’s a high probability that the second season won’t be here until 2025.

When will House of The Dragon return?

The filming of House of The Dragon season 2 is currently in pre-production, with the casting currently in progress. HBO chief Casey Bloys has confirmed in an indirect way that House of The Dragon won’t be coming back before the summer of 2024.
