What's shocking is that something as derivative and boring as Game of thrones – a work that plagiarises and/or borrows from so many previous works – is so popular. I suspect that it's partly due to the TV series (because the books are so badly written as to be almost unreadable – they make JK Rowling appear lucid) and partly due to the nudity (which always sells). I suspect that Game of throne fans have read very little proper literature and are thus blissfully unaware of how derivative it is and just how badly written and overblown it is. It reminds me of East Enders' (the soap) with swords. Please tell me that it's due to stop soon.
