Game of Thrones meets Bollywood…sort of? Okay, not really, but having a South Asian background and a big fan of Bollywood, I found this particular piece of news extremely intriguing.

We can never forget the iconic moment when Arya Stark plunged her Valyrian steel dagger into the Night King, ending his threat to humanity.

The move she used — dropping the blade from one hand to another — is one she’s used before; we saw her pull it off when she was sparring with Brienne in season 7. But she’s far from the first character in pop culture to think of it. Redditor u/Jugal0707 tracked down a very similar scene from a Bollywood soap opera on Sony Sab TV called Aladdin: Naam Toh Suna Hoga (which roughly translates to Aladdin: You Must Have Heard About Me/My Name). Watch below and tell me you don’t get déjà vu:

So this is beat-for-beat similar, except taht Aladdin had approximate one/1,000,000th of Game of Thrones’ budget. Did someone copy someone else?

Bollywood has been known to do remakes of Hollywood films and television shows. Like I said before, I’ve been a fan of Bollywood since I was a kid. I’ve seen Bollywood remakes of Hollywood movies like The Godfather (Sarkar), Reservoir Dogs (Kaante), and Mrs. Doubtfire (Chachi 420).

But mostly likely it’s just a coincidence. The Aladdin show aired in August of 2018, before Game of Thrones season 8. However, principal photography on season 8 was over by August, so there’s really no chance for anyone to plagiarize anyone else. Most likely both productions came up with the move independently. Again, it’s not like Arya was the first-ever character to pull that off:

That last one is from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, by the way.

Anyway, the only odd thing here is the timing.
