  1. I thought GRRM put Sothoryos and Ulthos there to remind us how little knowledge the Westerosi people knew about the East, just as Europe in old days had little knowledge of Africa even though they've been there… Adds an aura of mystery, y'know?

  2. just because the map is pink, it does not mean the grass is pink, most likely it represents lowlands since its all around mountains. Please dont be upset when you look at a real atlas and then discover that England isnt really pink either.

  3. "Tolkienesque"

Id wager that the planet of asoiaf is just as complete a world as middle earth ever was. If you want to argue that some authors phone this sort of stuff and want to flash around their touches of genius detail as "Tolkienesque"…

But i think the term should be "martinesque" because his work is like 20 layers deep, and even when the main characters only peel off the first few layers and call it solves, the rest of those layers are there for astute readers to discover, and almost all of it is completely consistent.

  4. Typical Millennials – they speak about something like they know everything about it after a half-hour search on the Internet, when in reality (again, typical of most Millenials) they have absolutely no clue as to what they are talking about.

  5. that set of maps is really splendid,
but you must be very bored to extract spoilers from it, especially as some places are causually mentions somnewhere in the story.
it just complete the total vision of the world in with the story plays.

  6. Omg. Who gives two shits if the grass is pink or fucking grey. Or rainbow for that matter, these books are amazing, and these maps flesh them out beautifully, and in such detail.
