After more than three decades in the movie industry, three-time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis has decided to hang up his hat. The actor announced that his 2017 film with writer-director Paul Thomas Anderson, a ’50s-set dress designer drama titled Phantom Thread, will be the last installment in his esteemed filmography. The statement, given via his spokeswoman, read, “He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject.” The notoriously private thespian may not be willing to elaborate publicly, but he has plenty of reasons to leave Hollywood’s bright lights behind…

What was your favorite Daniel Day-Lewis role?
He's going to play in my next work. It's an apology.
It's because Hollywood as no more to offer !… up to now.
He has quit because roles consume him. He has the rest of his life to live as himself.
Over rated actor.
Ahh bless him getting all depressed because of his roles. My heart bleeds for him.
It a either unique or it isn't.
this is the reason sam elliot blows him away
one of the best
He's not the greatest actor who ever lived. The multiple felon who is above the law Hillary Clinton is. Let's see DDL break every law on the books and get away with it.
Here's the short simple reason. Because Daniel acts because he loves to act, not for money. He would act in a movie and get so deeply involved in it and nail it 100% then he would take a break for a while. The movies that are coming out today are so bland and have no heart that he doesn't want to act these movies
Stay Alive!! no matter what occurs I will find you
Daniel Day Lewis is the best Actor in the world, sad to see him retire.
Because it's not a challenge to him?
Plot twist – he quits acting because in 2020 he's gonna be in a movie about an actor who quits acting
I suppose he experiences a loss of identity after film completion, having become the character over many months
U look at him and wish that all acting stars were like him. Grounded, humble, professional and dedicated and devoid of any incessant pursuit of cheap fame.
Who?
He quit so he can come back in a few years
Shit, just get to the point.
I noticed that most of Irish actors are allergic to fame
Take a bow Mr. Lewis..thank you and regards from Nepal!!
Sounded like he said gains of new york.
Because he's old and rich as fuck.
As an actor, I feel nothing but awe when thinking about Day Lewis….that being said, what I don't understand is HOW could he afford to take all those years-long breaks from acting: aside from the practical consequence of growing rusty (which he seems to be immune to), an actor stays in the business because he has to PAY THE BILLS. How could he afford to step out and back in like that? Did he invest really well in other businesses? Did he marry well? Where else did he make money?
It ok Marty…I talk to savemart and they say they have a job for me
DDL > Marlon Brando
best actor
Nooo.
Maybe he'll direct films one day.
I love him, best actor in the world, got it all, AND integrity.
I am quitting writing You Tube comments, I'd like to thank all the kind words, all the trolls, funny replies and thumbs up.
Ok😁
Much respect for Daniel. I'm glad he got, somewhat, out…
Always Last of the Mohicans
Daniel Day-Lewis is a wonderfully unique human being who courageously dedicates himself in his work to the truth of his characters and his own being. But, in order to display and share this naked truth, he literally leaves his self aside to become a living character. I am grateful for his profound gift to us all. DANIEL, YOU SHINE THROUGH THE DARKNESS. Thank you.
There Will Be Blood was intense. It's weird as he was both terrifying and sympathetic in his role. I even saw the Bastard in a basket scene as one of self destruction and self hatred.
His latest roles heven been his best anyway. Sincé gangs he´s lost.
The legend
Sad😥😥😥
Probably the most talented actor to ever exist
I have this fantasy of seeing him as Quixote directed by C. Nolan.
I really think in a few more movies, Johnny Knoxville will reach a level similar to DDL, he just needs time
I love this man.
he's back!
he looks so much better with a beard
DANIEL DAY LEWIS HAT S OFF ? I WISH HAD HIM AROUND GOD
I've only seen My Left Foot, Gangs of New York and There Will Be Blood and every performance was great
Quit? Really?
Just got a notification for a new movie today with him in it!……
wish he sticks with his decision,
the current commericalized film industry don't deserve actor of his Calibre!
Awesome in "Gangs of New York"!
