Things are not looking good for Luc Besson’s sci-fi epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. The expensive film was obliterated at the domestic box office in its opening weekend, falling in fifth place with only $17 million against a reported $180 million production budget. Considering the weight Besson’s name carries with sci-fi fans, many may be surprised to hear that his most recent outing had that much trouble finding an audience.   1. It flopped because no one had heard of it. I watched it and really liked it, so I tried asking friends and co-workers what they thought about it. I probably asked close to a dozen people, and not a single one even knew the movie existed. I don't know what they did with the advertising budget, but whatever it was, it was obviously BADLY misspent.

  2. I finally just watched it. It was a GORGEOUSLY done movie, however the acting and writing sucked :/ Its such a shame. I would have loved to see it IMAX just for the visuals but the content was definitely lacking.

  3. The visuals were good, especially the cute blonde. And I'm pretty sure it wasn't a flop on Pirate Bay or RARBG. Those audiences would not have bee accounted for.
