The Simpsons kicked off its 29th — 29th, people — season last night with an episode-long tribute to the biggest show currently on TV: Game of Thrones…and to a bunch of other medieval-y entertainment. …but this is the first time it’s gone all-in. The episode, entitled “The Serfsons” opened with the family already ensconced in their life of feudal servitude. The plot revolves around Marge’s mother being bitten by an “Ice Walker” (geddit?) and slowly turning into one herself. The family sets out to try and save her life.
In between, the Game of Thrones references came fast and furious, including Ned Flanders’ head being mounted on the city walls (because someone named Ned’s head is always mounted on the city walls)…
…Bart prank-calling the local tavern via raven…

Coincidentally, rival cartoon Family Guy also had its season premiere last night (it’s only in its 16th season — it’s a young-in), and also sent up Game of Thrones, but just for a second. Behold:
Incidentally, you miiiight be able to watch the whole Simpsons episode on YouTube if you click here…but no telling how long it’ll stay up.
