Beginning around 1377, medieval England was shaken by a power struggle between two noble families, which spanned generations and involved a massive cast of characters, complex motives and shifting loyalties. Sound familiar? Alex Gendler illustrates how the historical conflict known as the Wars of the Roses served as the basis for much of the drama in Game of Thrones.

  1. there is a tv show / book series about the wars of the roses called the white queen. I definitely recommend it. there's also a movie series called the hollow crown, which is essentially the shakespeare version of these events.

  2. Thank you for the history lesson! I learned about the War of Roses in school but it's been awhile so the details were fuzzy. I do not watch GoT but I tried once thinking it was a documentary series and was so sorely disappointed. I may try again knowing the truth behind the fiction.
