Looks like George RR Martin’s next Game of Thrones book could be delayed as it’s said he’s taken on a new job.
Yes, despite having the fantasy saga to finish, Deadline have reported that the 70-year-old has delved into a new project.
According to the publication, the author is now the new Chief World Builder for Meow Wolf, an Arts and Entertainment company based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
It’s said that the much loved story teller will bring ‘unparalleled storytelling skills to the multiverse’ and will ‘advise on building narrative and mind-bending ideas.’
Talking about his new venture, the star said: ‘From the very beginning, the Meow Wolf team captured my curiosity.
‘When [Vince Kadlubek, CEO of Meow Wolf] first approached me with the idea to buy and renovate a bowling alley, I wasn’t sure what to expect.
‘However, they really sparked my interest and their vision pushed all my buttons — a sci-fi world spanning multiple universes — they delivered something we’ve never seen before.’
He added: ‘I look forward to continuing to grow the Meow Wolf storyworld for years to come.’
Even though we are happy that he’s found another passion, we can’t help but wonder if this means The Winds of Winter’s release will be pushed back.
The writer has previously promised the novel will be finished by the time he gets to the World Science Fiction Convention, which will take place 29 July 2020.
However, we’re starting to doubt this.
Writing on his blog, Martin told his fans: ‘I tell you this…
‘If I don’t have The Winds of Winter in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done.’
He has however, refused to say when he expects his newest book to be finished, and told Entertainment tonight: ‘I’ve given up on giving dates because I give one and then I miss it and everybody gets mad.
‘It’ll be done when it’s done.’ We guess for now, it’s just a waiting game.
