It’s the much-anticipated Netflix series – due to start streaming on Friday (December 20) – based on the bestselling fantasy books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher follows the adventures of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia who, alongside a powerful sorceress and a young princess, must navigate the perilous realms of the Continent.
Any star names?
Henry Cavill plays the smouldering Geralt.
Remind me who he is again?
He’s the actor best known for his role as Clark Kent in the Superman films as well as Charles Brandon in all four series of The Tudors. Oh, and a one-off part in Midsomer Murders.

I enjoy Midsomer Murders. Is The Witcher a bit like that?

Indeed. Anyway, back to The Witcher. Cavill is joined by Freya Allan (The War of the Worlds), who plays Ciri, princess of Cintra, with Anya Chalotra (ABC Murders) as sorceress Yennefer, Jodhi May (Gentleman Jack) as Queen Calanthe and Adam Levy (Knightfall) as the druid Mousesack.

Since Game of Thrones ended earlier this year, The Witcher has been tipped as a successor. If you have a Westeros-sized hole in your life – or simply need some escapism over the festive period – it could be just the ticket.
