Netflix’s adaption of The Witcher is set to hit our screens later this year, and if the success of the original books and subsequent video games about the adventures of a monster hunter are anything to go by, it’s already looking to be a massive success.

One of the new show’s cast members, who will star alongside Henry Cavill’s titular Witcher Geralt, has spoken about the success of Game of Thrones and how The Witcher might reach those same, dizzying heights (although hopefully with a more fulfilling last series!).

Anya Chalotra, who plays the witch Yennifer, was speaking at San-Diego Comic-Con about the impending arrival of the show’s first season onto the American streaming service.

‘[The Witcher blowing up like Game of Thrones] means my life would blow up as well, wouldn’t it?’ she asked. ‘Yeah. You know, I’m taking it moment to moment and this already has been very overwhelming. It’s very scary.’

Very little has been disclosed about the adaption, but we do know that the The Witcher’s first season will consist of eight episodes. Joining Anya and Cavill in the cast are Ripper Street’s MyAnna Buring as the sorceressTissaia de Vries and Freya Alan as the Princess Ciri, who plays a significant role in both the books and video games, so expect her to feature heavily.

As for Anya’s own character Yennifer, she’s touted as Geralt’s true love, and a mighty sorceress in her own right. So expect the actress and a certain Mr Cavill to be sharing a lot of time together on-screen.

The TV adaption’s director, Lauren Hissrich, also touched on the topic of Game of Thrones, but only assure fans that ‘The Witcher is its own complete thing, but truthfully, Game of Thrones opened a door, at least.’

She also warned fans to expect a ‘magical horror show.’

The Witcher’s source material are a series of fantasy novels by the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, following the exploits of the titular Witcher, a mercenary monster hunter named Geralt who seeks to protect the Princess Ciri from evil forces who would harm her. The books were also adapted into a series of three video games, with the last being released in 2015.

The Witcher is set to be released on Netflix sometime later this year.
