We would put a spoiler warning on here, but I guess there’s no point in that now.
Way back in 2017, there were rumors floating around about what was going to happen in Game of Thrones season 7. Many of them came from a leak on Reddit, and pretty much all of them were accurate: Viserion dying, the meeting at the Dragonpit, everything.
But there was one spoiler that didn’t come to pass: according to this leak, Cersei Lannister was going to wake up in her bed in the season 7 finale to discover that she had miscarried. Clearly, that didn’t happen, but as actor Lena Headey revealed to an audience at the Munich Comic Con this past weekend, the scene was real. It even sounds like they filmed it:
“It was a really traumatic, great moment for Cersei and it never made it in,” Headey said. “I kind of loved doing that because I thought it would have served her differently.”
For my part, I assumed Cersei was indeed pregnant during season 8, although up until the moment Cersei feared for the baby’s life as the Red Keep was crashing down around her, it did feel ambiguous. Cersei also tricked Euron into thinking the baby was his. I’m guessing they wrote the miscarriage scene but then thought of ways they could use the baby in season 8 and cut it.
What does everyone else think? Would you have preferred to have the deleted scene in season 7? How would that have changed Cersei’s season 8 story?
