True Detective has had an interesting trajectory. The first season of HBOâs moody mystery drama was critically acclaimed, with excellent performances from leads Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson and a twisting, magnetic story that kept viewers hooked until the very end. And then the second season was a pile of nonsense. Wax and wane.
One thing everyone can agree on is that the opening credits for the first season are really, really cool. With the third season of True Detective around the corner, nowâs the perfect time to watch YouTubeâs own Robin Lindqvistâs mashup of the those credits with Game of Thrones, another show with an iconic opening sequence. Let it roll:
I love this. How about the bit when the unfurling Stark flag covers Theonâs left eye? Or the image of Bran with tears of blood and his mouth torn open? Is credit due to Game of Thrones? True Detective? Iâll just split and difference and sing praises to Robin Lindqvist.
True Detective season 3 kicks off on January 13. With a few years between seasons and Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali in the lead role, Iâm hoping it will be a return to form for the series. And if we get a trailer for the final season of Game of Thrones after one of the episodes, all the better.
