This Is Us dropped in a clever reference to Game Of Thrones in its mid-season premiere.
In the latest episode Kevin Pearson’s search for his uncle Nicholas prompts him to compare his family tree to that of the Lannisters.
Game Of Thrones fans will know that the House you would probably want your family to be least like is House Lannister. Or House Reyne – but that’s a different story.
In the episode Kevin takes his search to the U.S. Department Of Veterans Affairs but to get access to the files, he has to prove he is Nicholas’ family.
Kevin uses Joffrey Lannister as an example to prove he is Nicholas’ next of kin.
He tells a clerk at the department: ‘How about nephew? Nephew’s a big deal now. Right? Think Game Of Thrones. Joffrey was next of kin to the super handsome, fit, blonde uncle guy.’
The Clerk, who is up to speed on all things Westeros, fires back: ‘Jaime was never in line for the throne. Joffrey ascended after his adoptive father Robert Baratheon died.’
What Kevin clearly doesn’t know is that Jaime wasn’t the ‘blonde uncle guy’, he was the ‘blonde dad guy’ as Joffrey was one of three children Jaime had with his sister Cersei.
Game Of Thrones is back for its final series in April – maybe Kevin should tune in?
It was recently announced that actor Goran Visnjic – aka Luka from ER – will play a teacher in an episode exploring Beth’s backstory.
He will then be a recurring character for the rest of the season.
The Cosby Show’s Phylicia Rashad has been cast as Beth’s (Susan Kelechi Watson) mum Carol.
This Is Us airs on NBC in the US
